What are the main types of Hermit Crab?

Are you lost on the subject, what your favorite little crustacean is that? There are so many types and version of the beast is that it can get a bit daunting to try to find your special pet's identity. But do not worry! With this article you will call soon, what is your little friend without problems.

There are two types of hermit crab that are widely available in the U.S. and these are Coenobita clypeatus originally derived from the Caribbean and Coenobita compressus from Ecuador. They are more common than purple pincher (PP for short) and the E-crab, which is referred to more affectionately known among crabbers as "Eccie". If you own one of these adorable little critters, chances are that he is one of the type mentioned above, although some pet stores exotic breeds imported from the Pacific.

Okay, so how can you determine what kind of little critter is sitting in the tank? Well, there are some important differences, but one of the most obvious is that PP a large purple claw. This claw, incidentally, is used by him in order to block the entrance to his shell. He also has many small marks on the legs and claws, which are the equivalent of hair follicles and be as bristles. These tiny filaments are made of chitin, which also made the Constitution of the grumpy creature exoskeleton. However, these threads are not grow, like human hair follicles, but once the shed grumpy creature molts. PP has far more bristles on his body than does Eccie has just a bit of "bum fluff" on his claws!

Now take another look at your crabby companion. If your crabby companion has quite prominent round eyes, then you have the kinds of small creatures known as PP, while if his eyes are elongated, and he has stripes on the side of his head, then you are the proud owner of a Eccie . Another big difference in appearance is that Eccie has a wider, flatter chest and his legs tend to be the same color as his body.

As mentioned earlier, no special Eccie claws, with which they guard home such as PP, instead it crosses its two left-foot legs over their great claws. Eccie is a very colorful species of the little guys and can in a variety of colors ranging from bright yellow to dark gray to orange and tan found. It is very often with a bluish undertone to his body and in his legs found as a dark brown color. Often the tips of the legs are a darker color. But Eccie is a master of disguise and can start life appear as tan color, just a few months later as a light lavender color. This is often a direct result of diet and is a result of a deficit carotene, which can occur after molting. You can take steps to ensure that this does not happen on your crab by giving him lots of carrots and corn, the major sources of the organic compound carotene.

Well, I guess you now know what types of hermit crab is sitting in your tank, so go ahead and make his acquaintance and have fun!
