Facts about Chinchillas

The Andes of South America are home to indigenous chinchillas. Your draping thick fur coats help them in the wild. In general, a chinchilla life span between 10-15 years. In captivity they can live for more than 20 years. 

It takes 80-100 chinchillas to make one fur coat. More than 100 years ago, chinchillas were almost extinct. People hunted and killed for their beautiful fur. Finally, they were able to catch 11 chinchillas and brought them back to the United States. 

During the journey, one died, was not born to be lucky and landed 11 chinchillas in the United States. Today we have the pets are in U.S. descendants of these 11 

Chinchillas are nocturnal. Their large eyes help them to navigate. It is advisable to avoid chinchillas in a soundproof room, held by their frolicking surround. 


They sleep during the day, so keep them were they not subject kept awake by light and your daily activities. You should always approach them quietly. They are sensitive to stress and noise. 

Chinchilla behavior and habits are hard to change. If they are shy, they tend to remain shy. Therefore, if you want an active chinchilla chose one that seems to be active. 

First, you might get confused when you buy a chinchilla. Maybe have many expectations about its arrival. Chinchillas are shy and may run from you at first. Over time, they become good friends. 

You should to play aside an hour or so with your chinchilla. It will not be long before he will be begging you scratch his ears. 

Chinchillas do not like to cuddle and are therefore not the best pet for children who want to embrace new friend. If you pick them up you should be using both hands. Support their back legs in one hand, and front legs slightly higher than the back with the other hand. Move them to close your body. Then your chinchilla feel open and love to be with you. 

Chinchillas like to chew everything on earth to their teeth filed down. Never let them chew electrical wires. Your cage must not be made of plastic. Plastics are harmful to chinchillas. Enter chew them instead something like card board. 

Chinchillas squeak, bark, and rumble. They make allot sounds. This signal different things. Some correspond to the cheering, some in danger, and some crying. You can hear some other sounds in nights, due to their chewing and playing on wheels. So, never harbor them near your bedroom. 

Chinchillas are a little flirty pets. They flirt with other women. Never cage a female chinchilla with many male chinchillas. They are adorable, social and delightful. Care for them and spend a lot of time to bond.
