Advanced Genetic definitions Allele - one of the two paired genes an inherited property (one from the father, one from the mother) can affect. A wild-type allele, together with another wild-type allele produces a normal person. An altered or mutated allele may block or redirect biochemical pathway to produce a phenotype that is different from the wild type. 

Locus - a gene or allele which position on a chromosome (plural loci) Most mutations are on separate places in the chromosome. Allowing multiple mutant allele to be in place at once. Taking into account double, triple and perhaps endless combinations of genetic traits. 

Amelanistic - without melanin. (Albino) 


Axanthic - no yellow color. (Axanthics) 

Hypomelanistic - an animal with less black and / or brown color as a wild type. (Ghosts) 

Leucistic - a pure white animal with dark eyes. (Leucys) 

Melanistic - unusually dark, mainly due to an increase of melanin. (Sables) 

Xanthic - with more yellow than the wild type. ("Caramel" albino)

P generation - two unique animals to start a breeding program. 

F1 generation - the first generation progeny of a breeding P generation.
