Finch Care - Essential Guidelines

Welcome to the wonderful world of finches Finches are one of the most widely held and loved birds in the world for their beauty, personality, singing and ease of care. They are not overly loud so they live and are perfect for the home due to their longer life expectancy, they are ideal for households with small children, watching them can mature as they are! 

Finches are a practical choice for beginners because they hardy collectors, especially the Society Finch and Zebra finches are. However, that does not mean that veteran enthusiasts are not provided by the species in question, especially when you add the Gouldian finch as an available option. Finches are social and always prefer housed together or with other types of hardware bill birds. Although they are friendly, you should always be on the lookout for signs of fighting or bullying. 


It is never recommended to house finches with lovebirds, parakeets, hook bills or other large breeds that may be too aggressive for their sweet personalities. You also do not need to force them to live in a crowded area or they are stressed and in feather plucking. 


* Environment - Although finches are easy to care for, they need a clean and spacious environment to be healthy and happy. You appreciate a branch, a toy and mirrors, but keep these elements to a minimum and make sure that they do not interfere with the birds able to fly above their cage. 

* Handling - finches are not the kind of birds that like petted or held. That being said, many collectors have suggested that with time and patience, some finches can finger-tamed. If you need to keep your bird to cut their nails, put your hand on her back and gently wrap your forefinger and thumb on either side of the head. Rest assured, though, finches rarely bite and even if they do, it is not considered dangerous. 

* Grooming - A shallow bowl of water should be made available to every other day, so that your bird to bathe. Really in the wild, finches enjoy wallowing in the morning as a reward, you can grass or dandelions, the wet on the floor of her cage for a while are and remove them when they are finished nursing itself 

* Diet - All finches have their favorite items in their diet. Seeds will always be a staple and vegetables, sprouts, vegetables and fruits are added. It is very important that food left uneaten must be removed from the cage or it will rot and cause disease when they decide to eat it later recall.
