Harvester ants are a necessary food for most horned lizard. They can be bought from online sources, or you can catch your own. I have desert horned lizard holder known to catch their own, but most (including myself) prefer to buy them.
They send most of the providers in a box with a vented lid that can be easily stored. Once you feed them home and soak. Then the best way to keep them is in the door of the refrigerator at 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit. This keeps them asleep in hibernation and they remain alive in this state up to 3 months. Do not get the temperature below 40 degrees, or they will die.

They are also much easier to dust when you do not fight to keep them in your pocket. As in the living room they start to warm up and shake the ants move.
