How to Breed Leopard Geckos

If you are willing to try breeding leopard geckos at home, there are a few important steps that you need to consider. One of the biggest things to know is that the breeding season is from February to August. Along with this, there are several other steps must be taken in the culture:

You need a healthy male that at least eight months old and weighs a minimum of 45 grams for the process have. You need a female who is at least a year old and with a minimum weight of 50 g and. You can easily more women than men, if you are looking to mass production, but it is best to start with only one pairing for the first time.

Offer your female extra calcium powder the first month of the breeding season and be sure to give them a nest box where they will be able to lay their eggs. A nest box should have a large plastic container that has at least eight to ten inches of space and a removable roof. Make sure it's closed but has a small opening for the female gecko to move in and out of the nest. You should also have a minimum of 40 percent of moistened vermiculite.

After you prepare the room and made sure you have the right pair to breed, you must place them in the same cage. Some times they mate immediately, while others will take their time. Just waiting on a few hours to a few days ago, they actually start to plan the pairing. If you notice that the male is aggressive towards the female, this is completely normal and part of leopard gecko breeding process. He likes them, they snip to bite, and he is testing to see if she bites again. If it makes him bite back, then she is not ready to mate. Fear not, if they seem to be struggling, this part of the process is courting.

After a few days, if your lizards have not begun to pair, then disconnect it and try again in a few days. You will find times during the breeding leopard geckos, that they not be interested in mating immediately or within this month. This is perfectly normal and should not be discouraged.

To tell the males from females, tilt only on the gecko. A male have two bulges are formed hemipenal just below the tail vent and it is like a "V" between the hind legs.
