Pet ferrets

The ferret is a domestic animal and falls into the category of Mustela putorius furo. These animals are sexually dimorphic marauders that are larger than the male ferret specify female ferrets in general. These animals have white, black, brown, cinnamon or mixed color fur. They measure about 20 inches or 51 cm in height, and a 5-inch or 13 cm long tail. Compared to chinchillas have shorter life span 7-10 years. Weight in these animals are 1.5-4 pounds at an average. The domestication of this animal is uncertain and unspecified, but it is believed that they have been domesticated about 2,500 years. At the present time, they are also used for hunting rabbits. 

Characteristics of ferrets:
The Oakland Zoo describes ferrets as animals with a slender but long body. They have a gestation period of 42 days. The female ferrets usually have 2 to 3 litters a year. The boys are after a period of 3 to 6 weeks ablactated and are completely independent at the age of 3 months. They gain their sexual maturity at the age of 6 months. 

Diet for Ferrets:
As an owner, you must be aware of the fact that this animal is obligatory carnivorous. Their wild ancestors used to have natural foods diet with fur, feathers, skin, bones, organs and meat. They used to go for smaller prey. 


Behavior:
When it comes to the temperament of the ferret, you need to know that they are both nocturnal and crepuscular. This means that they sleep for more than 14 to 18 hours per day. So they are very active and in the mood either at dawn or dusk. They have similar qualities polecats, but they are very social behavior in contrast to the lonely polecat ancestors. They love to be in social groups. Since ferrets are territorial, they love it when borrowing has actually spoil and favor in the covered and enclosed spaces sleep. 

Ferrets have scent glands near their anus present. The secretion of this area is used to make odor. It was noted that they recognize the other people and their sex using anal gland secretions. You can also make use of the urine markers for individual identification and sex identification. 

Ferret Health Issues:
You need to constantly pay attention to the ferrets they give to keep healthy. It is good to take them to veterinarians for regular check-ups. You can have bulging and watery eyes, dark wax in your ears, head tilting due to ear infection, can cause pain and scrape the inside of the ears, vomiting, pale gums, leg stiffness, and weakness in the hindquarters, black spots, hair loss, ear mites, bleeding and nasal discharge, flaky skin, trouble breathing, cough, distended abdomen, pain in the stomach, blood in the stool, diarrhea, crying or vocalizing during urination, walking in circles, and highly aggressive behavior.
