Ways to Minimize Your Ferret Smell

Ferrets always have a smell to it, like you always have a smell about you and your dog always smells like dog. You can not do anything but accurate you can minimize the smell. Here is a list of what you can do to minimize your ferret odor, in order of importance.

Clean the litter box daily.

Keep the litter box clean. Clean the litter box at least once a day, and if you have more than a few ferrets, you may need to clean the litter box more than once per day. A living being, the issue smells a lot more than the actual creatures.

Feed your ferret stuff smells order.
You are what you eat. I like garlic. Whenever I bake my potatoes and garlic through food court, I sweat garlic the next day. My body odor changed significantly.

Ferrets are also what they eat. Look at the ingredients in your ferret dry food. Smell the individual ingredients that mean? I do not buy my ferret food contains fish, because I think fish is the stinkiest of all flesh. My ferrets get food with chicken, turkey, venison and duck made. (You like Totally Ferret.)

Remember, change slowly, if you want to change food to your pet. Some fuzzies get used to a particular food. Fuzzies have some allergies. I have a young lady who can not eat chicken without suffering GI disorders.

Clean the cage weekly.
Wash all the plastic trays in your ferret cage once a week. I use a vinegar and water solution. Several times a year completely take apart the cage and scrub it. I have a Ferret Nation cage and I wheel out, hose it down, spray it with soap, and allow it to soak. After spraying the soap off, I visually inspect for anything missed. Sometimes I need to get a scraper and scrape.

Change the bedding weekly.
They have pores all over your skin and you sweat. This gives you a fine human scent. Ferrets have scent glands all over it and it gives them a subtle musk, ferret odor. The scent glands release oil. The oil builds up in their beds.

So, change their bedding once a week. I like to keep at least two sets of sheets, so I can have some in the laundry while the ferrets use the rest in their cage.

Consider the scent glands.
Most ferrets are Descented before they reach the pet store.
What this means is that their anal scent glands are removed. You know how sometimes your cat or dog pulls his bottom on the floor? The cat or dog will try to express their anal glands. Most organisms express these glands naturally when they do their business, and if your creature has a problem, you're the best just leaving well enough alone.

Ferrets also have this anal scent glands when they are born. If your ferret still has its scent glands, you may want to consider removing them. Do a lot of research and talk to a vet or two before you do this. While this operation is performed regularly in the U.S., it is in the UK as cruel and veterinarians do it only when it is medically necessary.

I live in the U.S., and each ferret that I have ever come across already saved or Descented. I was told that while ferrets with their scent glands intact overall a stronger smell, they "poof" only rarely and the "poof" smell dissipates quickly (unlike a skunk where you bathe for days in your dog in tomato sauce Unlike ).

Not bathe your ferret.
The bathroom schedule is important. That is, it is important not to bathe your ferret very often. It may seem illogical, but if you bathe your ferret about, it is more stink. Do not bathe your ferret more than once a month. Less is better.

Baden, the ferrets oil that the body produces scent glands, and the little guy body is working to fix the problem. If you bathe your ferret too much, your little friend, the body will go into overdrive and product number of oil.

Do not bathe your ferret more than once a month. My ferret, usually only three baths per year, and the bathrooms are usually because they are covered in mud. If your ferret gets extra dirty, confused himself, or the like, rinse your ferret off only in the affected area, or wipe it with a baby wipe or a damp cloth.

The products are an option.
I do not believe that additional products are required, but if you really need to reduce your ferret smell more, there are a few products that can help. A few products designed to reduce body odor, are a clear liquid that you put in the ferret water. I have tried it on my ferret. They actually work. I do not mind it, but until I take the product. (It is a kind of watch as a puppy grow., You do not notice the growth from day to day, but all of a sudden, your dog is a dog.)

I do not think you no longer use this product. I do not think it's necessary, and I can not seem to find a list of ingredients. This makes me nervous.

Fragrances are another method, but also reduce the smell inside the animal, they mask the odor by another smell stronger.

My sister hates the ferret musk smell, so when she comes to visit, I make my weasel smell like baby powder or cucumber. My ferrets do not like it, and I do not like it, but it soothes my sister. We do not do this very often, but.

In summary,
1 Clean the litter box daily.
2 Change their bedding weekly.
3 Clean the cage weekly.
4 Feed your baby's non-smelly food.
5 Do not swim over them....
