Buckfast bees strong and Parasite-Resistant Honey Bees

The existence of this superior Buckfast bee is the result of long and careful work of Brother Adam of Buckfast Kehrie the Alley an old monastery in England. He devoted most of his life of beekeeping. When he died in 1996 at the age of 93, the Buckfast bee have been as a superior race that has al the good qualities of a honey bee recognized and admired by beekeepers all over the world.

The story in the early 20th Century started when Karl Kehrie a 12 year old boy came over from Germany with a view of the community of Buckfast Alley joining recognized for beekeeping to meet the demand for sugar and wax for making candles. He was a young monk under the name of Brother Adam Kehrie which was then assigned to help Bother Columban in keeping the bees.

Shortly after his assignment raided almost two thirds of its colony, 30 of 46, and were killed by the mite mite mite or disease, an outbreak that killed thousands of bee colonies in the British Isles at that time. This mite attacks the bee tracheal makes stifled what. Shortening the lifetime

Brother Adam found out that the remaining 16 colonies of hybrids between Italian and British native black bee bees were. The truly native black bees died during the outbreak, although it so difficult bees are known, but rather a bad mood. Following the departure of Brother Columban brother Adam was assigned to manage Buckfast apiary.

He made a plan to the colonies with a clear goal, a new race, develop strong as the black bees, and at the same time possesses resistance to diseases such as the Italian bee with the means of crossing rebuild.

He spent some time traveling to more than 100,000 miles to look for different original bee races mainly in countries were the native tribes was to be truly cared for and maintained. After years of long and careful breeding experiments carried out the breeding station of Dartmoor, the end result was the Buckfast bee.

The superior Buckfast has many positive features, which include: a good pollen collectors, very tolerant to tracheal mites, very gentle, sting instinct chalkbrood resistant, low swarming instinct and they do even in winter times.

However, there is a major drawback of Buckfast bees that they are very generous with the use of propolis, the surfaces are observed from their hive, which is against the principle of the modern hive where the comb should be easily removed for inspection.
