Of course, the cage walls should be strong and thick enough to keep your ferrets inside and all others out there. The door lock should be secure but easy access for people.Remember that a wire cage walls are also the windows. No one likes to be "on stage" all the time, and your ferret. As much as it loves you, your ferret needs some privacy. So sometimes it's a good idea to use an old sheet or blanket to cover the cage at night.
The cage should not be made from wire floors or carpet. Wire can damage your pet's paws and carpet fibers settle in ferret claws. Andif a ferret eats carpet, wool or other materials, it can lead to intestinal problems.2 Bedroom (s) - What should you put in the cage? The most important words to keep in mind are "soft" and "robust". Just about any soft durable fabric is ideal for your ferret cage. Old t-shirts, sweat shirts, blankets and throw rugs great hiding places. After all, "Ferret" means "thief", and a good thief needs a place to hide. Your fuzzies will love to dig in and hunker down in an old blanket or quilt.
You might want to stitch the fabric in one quick hammock and hang it from the cage ceiling. A hammock to sleep is one of woozle favorite places or cuddle with his companions. You will be amazed how many ferrets can pile be surprised in a tiny hammock. If you do not have sewing skills, do not worry. Most pet supply stores and websites have to order pre-made ferret hammocks.
3 Bathroom (s) - Now that the bedroom is finished, you need to consider the bathroom. Of course you have to litter boxes, but resist the temptation to use cat litter. Use only made dust-free litter specifically for ferrets. They love to dig in the waste and the clumping varieties can clog ferret nasal passages.Put the litter in a litter box designed to fit in a corner of the cage. Ferrets tend to use corners, so that a triangular box is the easiest to keep clean. You should one or two in the cage and also an additional litter box or two outside of the cage for play time. Take care of your ferrets favorite place "go" to and place is the pits.
4 Dining Room - Of course, you need two items in ferrets dining room: a source of water and a food source. For the water source, some owners prefer to use a heavy, non-tip bowl while others prefer a bottle of water. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. A bowl makes it easy for several pets drink at once. It's also fun, a ferret splashing in the water watch. However, the ripple is a mess that needs to be adjusted. On the other hand, a bottle of water makes clean-up a breeze, but some owners find a bottle of water is not as easy to control as a give and refill bowl.
A heavy, non-tip food bowl is best for food. You can opt for one that attaches to the cage or a wall that stands alone. Whichever type you choose, make sure it is placed in the bowl near both your ferret and the person who cleans and fills.
5 Utility room / laundry room / s Quarters - Of course your ferret is not really one of those rooms. But you do. Make sure all cage-cleaner place out of reach of your ferret, other pets and small children. You can wash your pet's bedding in the washing machine. If you clean the cage or bedding, use non-toxic, fragrance-free detergent to avoid allergens. Rinse ferret cages and equipment in clean water to avoid any residue. Clean these items often to reduce odors and germs.
