Modern Hoof Care - Two armed camps

As you may know I have various articles written from my years of experience in the industry and especially horse pulling a blacksmith. When I started in the trade as a blacksmith, in 1966, there were no major title, associations, or even contests. All you found was people who trimmed shod horses that hold in most cases, the welfare of the horse as a primary goal. The people who came to trade, could not say that going barefoot was better than when your horse is shod, and vice versa. There were only two rules to follow when you try to start to work on a horse, and they were;

1 What was the task that the horse had to do? 2 What could make the owners have to do?

It was then the responsibility of the horseshoer to the needs of these two points, before they actually fill in carrying out any operation on the horse itself. Under these two aspects into account creates a business that was both large and solid, mainly because of it. Primarily as the horse, and secondly, the requirements of the owner The end result was that the horse was sound and the owner was happy with the result. That's what showed that the farrier did the best job they could do.

This was also a time when the only time that a person could reach the market was to help through an apprenticeship with an established blacksmith, who are prepared to enter the workforce was. There were a few, not too many who are willing to work with young and inexperienced people and these young people had had to be ready to commit to a very demanding and strict schedule. There was not a commitment of six to eight weeks of training, there was a minimum of three years and in many cases much longer.

The trade in horses work 'feet is not one that can be learned in a week-end seminar or a classroom over a period of six to eight weeks. It is a highly skilled trade that requires a lot of knowledge about the structure of the entire horse, movement, forward motion (physics), muscle structure and operation, skeletal structure and operations, foot problems, and many other areas that aid correct in the operation of the forward movement of the horse as a pet. Once that previous issues have to be learned then you begin to understand and learn how they all work together and correct. You need to learn how to work with and hopefully help in certain types of foot problems, those that can be corrected, and those who can not. If they can not resolve, you need to know what can be done to make it easier to live. That is why it is difficult to find good foot care professionals today, they are barefoot or farrier hoof people.

After a short time in the trade, I was introduced to the concept of associations and initially they had a basis for the improvement of the trade. They were based on the fact that young people entering the trade and be able to follow standards for trade better, but after a while the direction was changed. It began on the individual doing the work rather than the work that has been achieved are centered. It was a big boost in the industry and trade associations, the selection also steeped in the "Hall of Fame".

 To be elected as a member of the "Hall of Fame Farrier" Their work was based on what you had reached to trade, or as it now likes to call her "career", but as that which the horses reached Kaufmann worked on. Emphasis was also focused on "competitions" where competitors asked to provide certain types and styles of shoeing, which were detrimental to the welfare of the horse and the operation of his feet and the entire body function as well as to create. Blacksmith was focused on these competitions and won them. To fog all year long in the style of the competition guidelines and in the process make good farrier techniques to stay on track. This is what I based my belief when I say that the trade more self-centered rather than centered on the horse has to say.

Now not all members of the trade was centered on the competitions, some remained centered on the horse and the numbers were few and far between. There have been studies, such as the horse run and how the hoof itself and could, was classified as a simple machine under the laws of physics. All of this was helpful and gave information that was understandable by the new members of the trade, but it was information that was already available and of the established older farriers at the time. T
hen two things happened:

• Established started artisans, not to take apprentices. Why did this happen? Simple, we have a structured society that feed on lawsuits. Young people would come to trade, in some cases, nothing of the dangers and not the experience of working with large animals, then sue the person offering them training because they had been injured. People need to be aware, and if you have experience to large animals understand that it is never when you are hurt, but how bad.

• opportunists saw a situation, the use of the situation that had allowed them to trade in makeup. By centering the work on the individual and not the horse a "program" was created to the horse owner, an alternative and "natural", "program", which was reputed to be about what was the most natural way for horse hoof care centered centered what's right for the horse. Now I have and many other senior members of the established community farrier saw and studied the "program" and found that on the first layer, it is a good program was. But like many other "program" that had been created had his faults over the years, and they were;

• As the program grew and acceptance, made people change the overall design of the established method. Starting with small, the barely perceptible and then moving to those who had grown larger and had more of an effect on the operation and health of the horses feet and solidity.

• The second part of the changes that happened was the introduction of the zealot-like attitude of the people who were carrying out the work. All other methods and established forms of hoof care were the worst thing the horses' feet could be done and that their methods were the only thing to save the horse population. Each method is only as good as the person applying is there or be barefoot trimming horseshoeing.

• On the subject of solidity, we must at every program, you need to sore your horse and unusable for up to one year as a program that can not look in the best interest of the horse. Not to mention that if you ride your horse while in a program like this for your horse to buy some rather large and difficult boots to wear while want to have out on the trail. The care of the feet of the horse was designed to make the horse comfortable and suitable.

At the present time we have two armed camps that those who think barefoot methods the only answer to all foot problems in the equine structure and then we have the horseshoeing camp, both barefoot methods and techniques to do farrier. Of course here I would have to do is that you sit down, think and realize what is best for your horse. Them and to be solely responsible for your horse, that's the way it is legal. I want you. Concerning the techniques that are available and you are trained You must ensure that you get the right person elected to the work that needs to be done on your horse regular maintenance, so chose wisely and cautiously.

We do not need two armed camps. The only one who suffers here is the horse, and they are the ones who end up paying the price for our mistakes. Remember that education is key, it is not a "program" and it is not club...
