Although there is a very long list of cat breeds, there are some that are more popular than others. This could be due to availability, personality, appearance or intelligence. Every man is drawn to a particular cat for several reasons. Below are some top recommended decisions.
- American Shorthair - In the United States, this is the eighth most popular breed. It is tall, slim, powerful and very athletic. These are generally healthy cats with a lifetime up to 20 years. They are recorded in eight colors and patterns.
- British Shorthair - have now more popular than the Persians (partly thanks to Steven King), these cats plush, dense layers, and curious eyes are round and bodies are large and muscular. Although they come in a variety of patterns, blue is the preferred choice.
- Siamese - originally from Thailand, for a period of 20 Century, this was the most popular breed in North America and Europe. A wedge-shaped head, ears distinctive, flexible bodies and unique personalities set them apart from the rest. Although the breed was once cross-eyed, this characteristic has been bred out of them.
- Ragamuffin - Making its debut in 1994, the lumpenproletariat one of those jaw-dropping races is you just want to have a dozen. Apart from the long, lush, rabbit like fur, they are known for their cuddly and friendly personalities.
- Maine Coon - Native to Maine and an unprecedented hunters, this is one of the oldest breeds in North America. - Persian - Who can resist a smashed in face, snub nose and big round eyes? Persian cats are all markings or color including tabby, blue, tortoiseshell, gold and pointed recognized.
- American Longhair - A breeding experiment went wrong (or right) and the American Longhair was born. The intentions were to make a American Shorthair, the green eyes and a shiny coat, but a Persian had a slender body and shorter hair, was to create in a row. They are more active than Persians with the same soft voice.
- Bengal - This newer hybrid has become quite popular. They have rosettes and stripes to make it look like a wild Bengal tiger. Different colors and patterns are recognized. Despite their appearance, they are quite gentle assuming they are at least four generations from the Asian Leopard used for breeding.
- Bombay - These cats crave attention, got extremely connected to their people and are excellent with children. They are playful, intelligent and loves to cuddle. Although they are mostly black, some are born sable.
- Sphynx - The Canadian breed is known for its lack of fur. They are full of energy, curiosity, affection, and are extremely intelligent. Although they do not have a coat that requires weekly brushing is a bath needed to clean the oils that build up on their skin.
