Forge: What is your role in your horse life playing and how important are they?

As you have heard from me before, I'm old school and the old school sayings is "No feet, no horse." How to be more involved in the world of horses, the more you will understand this word. One reason for this is because if your horse is not properly trimmed or shod, (means putting shoes on the horse), correct, it is not their feet down as they should which support their body weight, and of course they will start shifting their weight to other areas that were not designed for this task, such as tendons and ligaments.

Horses with sore feet can not perform very well. If a horse is in motion, shifting his or her weight because of sore feet, we are talking about hundreds of pounds. Add the weight of a man on his back, and you are for what could run a serious situation for the health of the horse. This in turn can cause a horse to become sore in one or more areas, and this pain can be severe and last for weeks or months to remedy were corrected by the feet of the horses.

Let me start at the beginning. If a mare has a foal at her side, as you teach this new piece of jewelry is handled in your life to whom, and teach them to pick up their feet should be an important part of their schooling to be. As they learn to pick their feet, then they are to teach while you are picking her feet.

After weaning, the foal will have a blacksmith and start cutting their feet. If that person has problems with conformation, now is the time to start the process. A blacksmith can look at your confirmation spreaders, watch the way they walk and move, and perhaps help them later in life so that their movements will become more efficient, which means less problems down the road. Wait until a horse is fully developed and as an adult is not the best time to try and change their way of movement. Sometimes this can be more harm than good. Minor changes at this age and older is fine, but beyond that you can sometimes get you and your horse in trouble, so be careful.

If you just bought a new horse to get the necessary arrangements for a blacksmith, and a look at your horse's feet. Explain the novelty of this horse, what your intentions are for this particular horse and the options you can either put shoes on the horse or just so they can "barefoot" to discuss.

As you probably know, there are many different types of sports that involve horses. This in turn will involve a much more detailed kind of fitting. A racehorse need a very light shoe that will help them to grip the ground and to assure a firm grip is. A reigning horse need a shoe that will help them when they do, their difficult sliding stops. A cutting horse will need a shoe that does not interfere with their extreme movements from side to side, at the same time, helps them from slipping and sliding. Dressage horses need a heavier shoe, as they put their feet firm and strong on the ground if need in competition. Each athletic horse will have their own specific needs and requirements for shoeing. It is a very important part of their being able to perform to the best of their ability. Remember to follow a horse's shoe on the foot. If the shoe does not correctly, your horse will not move as they should.

Well, if you are with your horse for a very difficult and challenging sport, you can at some point, "corrective action shoeing" have what is called. Sometimes performance horses, because the confirmation shortcomings, do not disturb and start to develop problems such as hitting yourself or scalping itself. Basically, they are damaging a part of their body, usually the opposite ankle, ankles or even her ankle with his foot. A knowledgeable and experienced blacksmith can usually help a horse to overcome problems like this. Make no mistake, especially when the stakes get higher with higher competition, a good blacksmith is worth its weight in gold. A large blacksmith goes far beyond that.

How do you find a good blacksmith? My suggestion is by word of mouth. If you are just starting out with horses, you will find a large yard or stables and stop in and ask them what they use blacksmith. In general, every horse person is more than willing to help a fellow rider. Also, large tack shops or your local feed store can steer you in the right direction. If you recommendations from several riders for a blacksmith, maybe to get a little higher than others in the area are reluctant to look the other direction. A few dollars now can save you hundreds if not thousands of years later. Good Luck!...
